NEWS ARCHIVE Monday June 29th, 2009 BattleGroundSanDiego continues its Orange County swing with its next event at the Upper Deck Retail Store. Victor Cantu, Circuit Commissioner for the BattleGroundSanDiego Tournament Series When asked why he chose the Upper Deck Retail Store for the next event, Victor Cantu summed up the following. "I was very impressed with what I saw during the sneak preview for the Fields of Honor. Will Estela, the store manager, did a great job and the location was perfect. Will genuinely cares about the state of the game and the events that he hosts. The fact that he was able to pull 48 people for his event is proof enough. We hope that the buzz that both the BattleGroundSanDiego Tournament Series and that of the events that have been held at the Upper Deck Retail Store to date will combine make for one hell of an event." The Upper Deck Retail Store, located in Huntington Beach, California is the first of its kind. Its doors openned in February of 2008 and is well known as a location for battlegrounds of all makes and sizes, as well as player signings from professional sports and an outlet for all things sports and memorabilia. "The Upper Deck Retail Store has space for over forty and we are hoping to fill it to the rafters," Victor Cantu continued. "The event will be held Sunday, July19th with registration beginning at 10 am. We expect all of the combatants from the last event to attend including the last event Champion, John Patchell. John has yet to be defeated in individual play in our tournament series so he has a big target on his head. Just to keep that theme going, I am putting a personal bounty on him as well. The event will constructed format with swiss play leading to a final 8. With the Field of Honor card series becoming eligible for play a few days before, I am going to be very curious about some of the deck builds. The centralized location is great for combatants from Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego and of couse Orange Counties. This should prove a very easy draw for players from each of these great player bases. The prize pool will be the best and most diverse we have seen. Deck boxes, autographed extended art cards, promo cards, a playmat and Badges of Justice to name a few. When you couple that with the feature match rewards, there are going to be some very happy combatants departing with loot once the event comes to a close. I am really looking forward to this one."
