NEWS ARCHIVE March 28th, 2009 The date and location for the first BattleGroundSanDiego Event of the Tournament Season has been selected. BattleGroundSanDiego announced today that the first location for a Stomping Ground event has been selected. In doing so, BattleGroundSanDiego has moved one step closer to joining the other Tournament Organizers dedicated to the World of Warcraft® TCG community. "We believe that the WoW TCG community in Southern California is vastly underserved when it comes to an official Tournament Circuit", states Victor Cantu, Circuit Commissioner. "When you read the forums, when you read the blogs and when you talk to the players out there, you find that the community has been asking for a format like this for quite some time. There are groups out there. Groups of 4 to 6 to 8 players who make the time to get together at some of the great shops in the San Diego area. Shops like Artifex in Mira Mesa. They get together on a pretty regular basis for the simple enjoyment of the game." The BattleGroundSanDiego Tournament Series is based around two types of events. The Stomping Ground and the Zerg events. This first event will be the first Stomping Ground of the tournament season. "The Stomping Ground is intended to be the regular battle ground for the participant in the Tournament Series. The Stomping Ground will have both a constructed and sealed deck tournament. What we wanted to do was to be able to draw a wide array of players and allow them to play in their prefered format. We make this possible by having both constructed and sealed deck formats at each event. Players not making the final 8 in either format are then invited to square off against each other in a draft format event to continue the action. This is also a geat way to pad your constructed deck for future play. A player can make the trip from Orange County or Riverside County, or even Los Angeles County and still make a day of it. We wanted to provide an escape. An event where your day didn't end after the initial 3 to 4 hours of round robin play." - Victor Cantu. In conjunction with the tournament formats that occur at these events, BattleGroundSanDiego has added a twist to the tournament circuit. Not only do the Stomping Ground events have individual champions and prizes, but the Tournament Circuit continues all year with a Points Championship. "The second thing that we wanted to do was to have a Circuit that could be played all year long against the region's best players. In the mold of Golf's Fedex Cup and NASCAR's Nextel Cup, we created the BattleGroundSanDiego Points Championship. Every player who enters a BattleGroundSanDiego event will receive a point value for their final placement within that tournament. The point values available are determined by the number of players who enter the tourney. At the end of the tournament season, the player with the most points hoists the cup as the champion in that format. I say in that format because there will be a points champion for both the sealed and constructed deck formats. Standings will be updated after each event and event results will be submitted to UDE as well for rankings." " Our goal for our first event is a 64 player field. Some that I have talked to have called that ambitious. Absolutely its ambitious! But why put on an event and accept that a small field is all that is possible. We are partnering with the local shops in San Diego, with shops in Orange County, with shops in Los Angeles and Riverside counties to build the player base. Once again that brings us back to the formats of the events. I believe players will make the trip for an event every other week, that they can get 8 to 10 hours of solid gameplay in at." - Victor Cantu. The Stomping Ground date and location will be announced on Friday, April 10th, 2009 on this website. - The BattleGroundSanDiego News and Announcements Team
